DiscoverDance Tier 3 students: REGISTER HERE
DiscoverDance, an outreach program of CPYB, furthers the school's mission to inspire, educate and enrich the lives of community members; specifically young students and their families. The program's four-tiered framework provides children of various socioeconomic backgrounds an opportunity to see, experience and then train as a dancer.
We begin the process with a rich introduction to ballet through performances and master classes. From that pool of students, talented and/or promising students are invited to participate in an intensive workshop onsite at CPYB. The workshop culminates with a selection of students, based on talent, desire and commitment to be offered fully-funded matriculation into CPYB's academic ballet program.
-
Tier 1: Exposes children in the capital region to professional, live theatre productions such as Hansel and Gretel, George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker™, and Swan Lake.
-
Tier 2: 1st and 2nd grade children are given the opportunity to experience a dance class in their own public school setting.
-
Tier 3: Interested and talented children are invited to participate in a formal fifteen-week workshop at CPYB's studios in Carlisle.
-
Tier 4: Scholarships are awarded to selected students to fund their formal study of classical ballet at CPYB.
Since its inception, DiscoverDance has introduced more than 40,000 elementary school children in the capital region to the art of classical ballet. The program is funded through the generous support of The National Endowment for the Arts, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, regional corporations and foundations, and individual donors.
