New York City Ballet Dancers in Famed Works on Whitaker Stage
Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet presents Fancy Free

Carlisle, Pa. (May 6, 2014) – On Saturday, June 28, the Southcentral Pennsylvania region will experience an unforgettable evening featuring New York City Ballet (NYCB) dancers – including seven principal dancers, two soloists and two corps de ballet members – in celebrated works from the world renowned George Balanchine, the legendary Jerome Robbins, and today’s most in-demand ballet choreographer, Christopher Wheeldon.

Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet (CPYB) is proud to be able to bring these NYCB dancers to central Pennsylvania. Jonathan Stafford, also a NYCB principal dancer, will be the artistic director leading the program. This is the first time these critically acclaimed works will be performed in Harrisburg: Balanchine’s romantic Emeralds and brash and breezy Western Symphony (2nd Movement), Robbins’ simply irresistible Fancy Free, and Wheeldon’s mesmerizing Liturgy.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 28, performance at Whitaker Center in Harrisburg are available by calling 717.214.ARTS (2787), online at whitakercenter.org, and in person at the Whitaker Center Box Office at 222 North Market Street.

The illustrious cast of dancers coming to Harrisburg from New York City for this one-night-only performance benefiting the students of CPYB will be:

Principal Dancers: Jared Angle (CPYB summer program alumnus), Chase Finlay (CPYB summer program alumnus), Sterling Hyltin, Teresa Reichlen, Abi Stafford (CPYB alumna), Daniel Ulbricht, and Andrew Veyette

Soloists: Georgina Pazcoguin (CPYB summer program alumna) and Brittany Pollack

Corps de Ballet Members: Meagan Mann (CPYB summer program alumna) and Allen Peiffer (CPYB alumnus).

“Having Jonathan create this program is beyond thrilling – he’s coming full circle!” said CPYB Founding Artistic Director Marcia Dale Weary. “From growing up here in Carlisle to touring the world as a respected and famous dancer, Jonathan is bringing this wonderful program back home to pay tribute to his roots.”

World-renowned principal dancer Jonathan Stafford joined New York City Ballet in 1999 following his studies at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet under Founding Artistic Director Marcia Dale Weary and at the School of American Ballet (SAB), the official school of the New York City Ballet. Since joining NYCB, Stafford originated roles in works by Bigonzetti, Martins and Ratmansky, and has also danced numerous featured roles in works by Balanchine, Robbins and Wheeldon. In 2006, Stafford became a guest faculty member at SAB, and has been a member of SAB’s permanent faculty since 2007. He directed the repertory for the NYCB Dancers’ Choice benefit event, selecting material from a repertory that contains 238 ballets. Stafford will become a Ballet Master with NYCB and will also continue to teach at SAB following his retirement from dancing in May 2014.
