In the first tier of arts exposure, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet provides 1st and 2nd grade students the opportunity to attend a CPYB school day performance free of charge at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in Harrisburg, Pa.
Tier 1 of DiscoverDance helps students develop an appreciation for the art form and become acquainted with proper theatre etiquette. Students gain a greater understanding of how dance is produced, including lighting, sets, costumes and music. Prior to each performance, class teachers receive curriculum kits that include materials for student preparation—including appropriate lesson plans, dance history, stage directions, and other pertinent information.
In addition to the high quality of dancing, seasoned choreographers, costume designers and set designers help CPYB deliver the highest quality of professional productions. Participating schools have had the opportunity to experience a wide variety of performances, including the holiday favorite George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker,™ Hansel and Gretel, and classical story ballets such as Cinderella and The Sleeping Beauty.
