Choreographic Initiatives

FirstSteps and ChoreoPlan

FirstSteps, CPYB Student Choreographic Workshop further enriches the training of CPYB dancers beyond the traditional student/performer boundaries. Students have the unique opportunity to learn elements of classical composition and explore how to organize and illuminate their thoughts while working with dancers in a leadership role. The inaugural workshop took place January 2012. Bi-yearly workshops culminate with in-studio public performances showcasing the choreographers’ created works.

Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet's ChoreoPlan, developed in 1998 by former CPYB Resident Choreographer Alan Hineline, provides a laboratory setting for emerging classical choreographers to develop their craft in an atmosphere where process trumps product. Choreographers are provided the opportunity to create classically based works on CPYB’s company of well-trained, classical dancers in a 13-day studio workshop that concludes with public in-studio performances.
