Growth Measured in Leaps and Bounds
In the Primary Division, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet provides boys and girls the opportunity to start or continue learning the foundational elements of ballet. All new students ages 6-7 will take a placement class following registration to determine their level. Students ages 8+ will need to audition.
Ages 8 and Older
Students begin in Level 1, learning the basic ballet positions, the progression of a standard ballet barre, and learning the French vocabulary that defines all ballet steps. The student moves into beginning center work, away from the support of the ballet barre.
As the student learns the ballet technique appropriate for each level, and when the student’s body has become strong enough to accomplish the movements taught, then at the discretion of the Artistic Director, the student moves to the next level where more intricate steps and combinations are introduced. Advancement is based on ability, not age.
Classes are made available to Primary Division students Monday through Saturday. To gain the most out of your training, it is recommended that students invest, at minimum, the following number of classes into their ballet studies per week. All Primary Division classes will take place virtually via Zoom until further notice. Class times listed are subject to change. *All times listed in EST.
